The least terns are back, returning to their Island breeding grounds.

The smallest American tern (hence their name), they weigh only about an ounce and can grow to about 9 inches in length.

They are acrobatic flyers and their call is either a sharp,  “kip-kip-kip” or a shrill “zreep.”
