Doc Larry Ferrari landed a 48-pound, 50-inch striped bass last Saturday.

He caught it off the beach on a lure to the west of the North Ferry slips. No one’s quite sure, but many believe it’s the largest bass caught off an Island beach in some time.

Mr.  Ferrari said he took a good 20 minutes to land the fish.

He brought it to Jacks Marine where it was weighed and measured.
