The 61st annual Shelter Island Fireworks on Saturday, July 7 went off without a hitch, with hundreds of people gathering on Crescent Beach with their families to eat, drink, and be merry before the fireworks at 9 p.m.

On the sunny morning of July 7, approximately 40 dogs — and one guinea pig — and their owners gathered in a shady park across the street from Our Lady of the Isle Church for the annual “Blessing of the Pets” ceremony.

Since September, the Brugman sisters, Nora, 26, and Atlantic, 27, both sailing instructors at the Shelter Island Yacht Club (SIYC), have been training with two-time Olympian and Islander Amanda Clark in hopes of representing the United States in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games. (more…)

A few days after Hurricane Maria had torn through Puerto Rico last September, clothing designer and curator Sylma Cabrera walked down to Pure Soul, her clothing and accessories boutique in historic Old San Juan, and found all the glass windows shattered.
