Meet the candidates
To the Editor:
Tomorrow, Sunday, March 25, the Shelter Island “Sunday Group” is sponsoring a reception to introduce three candidates for the Democratic Party nomination for the House of Representatives in the June 26 primary election.

The candidates are seeking to unseat Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin who strongly supports President Trump’s regressive health, environmental and tax policies. Concealed carry
To the Editor:
In reviewing the voting record of Congressman Lee Zeldin, let us not forget that he is one of the co-sponsors of the H.R. 38 bill.

It is also known as the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 that authorizes someone who holds a concealed carry permit issued in one state to carry a concealed firearm in any state that also authorizes the carrying of a firearm. (more…)

A moment of focus
To the Editor:
Jean Lawless has brought us to attention like the sudden crack of artillery (“Our view: When nobody knows, nobody cares,” February 15).

No, not shot, as you check yourself for blood, but deeply wounded. Ms. Lawless has brought us to a moment of focus, as if through a sight. This sight, however, is the destruction of Suffolk County parkland and is the work to clear, in this writer’s opinion, a water view for two homes set upon a hill. (more…)
