BEVERLEA WALZ PHOTO Girl Scouts from Troop 1711 assisted members of the Legion Auxiliary last Tuesday in assembling poppies at the American Legion Post. The Auxiliary organizes the preparation and sale of the poppies annually and they, assisted by the Girl Scouts, will be selling the poppies on Memorial Day. All proceeds raised from the sales go to efforts to assist veterans, according to Auxiliary President Mary Dudley.Pictured are Scouts Allie Brush, Francis Regan, Bella Springer, Kaitlyn Gulluscio, Legion Auxiliary member Rita Gates, Karen Brush and Laura Lomuscio. Concealed carry
To the Editor:
In reviewing the voting record of Congressman Lee Zeldin, let us not forget that he is one of the co-sponsors of the H.R. 38 bill.

It is also known as the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 that authorizes someone who holds a concealed carry permit issued in one state to carry a concealed firearm in any state that also authorizes the carrying of a firearm. (more…)

In the crowd Friday morning around the flagpole of American Legion Post #281 in the Center was a line of youngsters, each holding a section of a folded flag, passing it along to legion Commander Dave Clark who stood at the base.

As soon as Commander Clark started to hoist the Stars and Stripes it filled out, standing straight in the bright, windy day. Twenty-two veterans of all ages in a semicircle in front of the hall saluted as the flag rose up against the cloudless blue sky. (more…)

At a packed Town Hall meeting Friday, October 28, the Town Board passed a proclamation honoring Mrs. Roswitha Wissemann, known to several generations of Islanders as “Miss Rose,” or “Rosie,” for her “sincere dedication and service” to Sylvester Manor and to many community organizations and activities.
