The Shelter Island Historical Society is currently looking for 15 to 20 volunteers for the upcoming Shelter Island Car Show on June 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Various volunteer shifts are available. Funds raised by this event help support the Shelter Island Historical Society and the Shelter Island Fire Department.

To make this a success, they need your help!

I remember how important it was for me as a teenager to get a driver’s license. I appeared at the motor vehicle bureau on my 16th birthday, birth certificate in hand, to get my junior license learner’s permit.

Now, more than a half-century later, I find myself looking at those signs that tell us it’s time to stop driving.  (more…)
