When you meet Abby Kotula you’re impressed with a couple of things. First, she’s petite. Second, you quickly find out she’s determined and intelligent. Trained in music, gymnastics and dance, she has a way of approaching life with confidence born of thorough preparation.
An athlete for as long as she can remember, Abby has played baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball and is currently a three-sport athlete at Shelter Island School. This past fall, in her first year of high school, she was a member of the cross country team, the cheer team and this spring is pitching and playing second base on the JV baseball team, the only girl on the roster. The Shelter Island boys JV baseball team finished the 2014 season playing the Ross School Cosmos on their home field on May 9.
The Island faithful broke out the lawn chairs and was lined up on the first base line at Fiske Field for the start of the game. It was a warm day and great weather for a spring baseball game. The Island boys ended the season on a winning note in a high scoring back-and-forth 14-11 victory. (more…)
