It’s that time of year when we start to see more traffic on our roads including the two-wheeled kind — and as temperatures go up, patience goes down. Hopefully by practicing a few commonsense rules and some tolerance, we can all share the roads and stay safe.

Islanders ranging in age from their mid 40s to 80s feel very comfortable exercising in “Zumba Gold” classes offered at the American Legion Hall on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. for $5. (more…)
STOCK PHOTO Tai Chi originated in China as a martial art, but it is now a popular physical activity for senior citizens around the world.
Tai Chi classes are coming to the Senior Activity Center in March. Classes will meet twice weekly for one hour and will go on for eight weeks.
Senior Center Director Laurie Fanelli tells me that classes are going to be taught by a certified instructor from the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, free of charge. (more…)

Many of us start the New Year with the best of intentions but find it difficult to maintain our resolve. Everyone struggles with temptation and procrastination. These are not individual weaknesses or personal inadequacies. Just as we can lift weights and make our muscles stronger, we can strengthen the brain and become better decision makers. Kim Clark will be leading Zumba classes at Our Lady of the Isle Church on Tuesdays and Thursdays during July and August from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The classes, sponsored by the town’s Recreation Department, are $5 per session and open to all. Bring plenty of water and wear comfortable workout shoes.
