“Eat Less and Move More” has been the mantra of the diet and fitness industry for the past few decades. So why are so many people still struggling to lose weight despite following this advice? Unlike our fitness trackers, our bodies don’t possess a calorie meter that keeps track of energy in and energy out. A calorie is simply a unit of measure for energy — not completely without merit in the weight loss formula, but limiting.

It’s that time of year when we start to see more traffic on our roads including the two-wheeled kind — and as temperatures go up, patience goes down. Hopefully by practicing a few commonsense rules and some tolerance, we can all share the roads and stay safe.

STOCK PHOTO Tai Chi originated in China as a martial art, but it is now a popular physical activity for senior citizens around the world.
Tai Chi classes are coming to the Senior Activity Center in March. Classes will meet twice weekly for one hour and will go on for eight weeks.
Senior Center Director Laurie Fanelli tells me that classes are going to be taught by a certified instructor from the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, free of charge. (more…)
