Ken LaValle (R-Port Jefferson), senior member in the New York State Senate, was first elected in 1976. In 40 years, he’s proven his ability to bring home the bacon for his district. Shelter Island got a pass — literally — from a dangerous storm this week, getting some much needed rain, some strong winds, but nowhere near the hurricane force conditions that could have hit the East End.

Another positive result from Hermine’s passing is it presented an ideal time for the Island’s Emergency Management Team to test its readiness with months to go before the November 30 conclusion of hurricane season. (more…)

The first major storm of the hurricane season may have arrived with little fanfare, but its fury was enough to give Shelter Island first responders a test of systems in place to deal with emergencies. (more…)

They started off slowly, so slowly they had to wait for Mother Nature to cooperate.

The 2015 Shelter Island Bucks were rained out twice in a row to start the season, and then were inconsistent starting the campaign, only one game over .500 after 13 games. (more…)
