The Shelter Island Historical Society’s Havens House Museum is currently closed for repairs and upgrades, including HVAC and climate control installation. Our Lady of the Isle Church is hosting a relief drive for victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and Island  residents are being asked to help by donating non-perishable food items or supplies. (more…)

The timing was perfect.

With Texas and Louisiana recovering from Hurricane Harvey, Florida still in shock from the devastation of Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria rampaging through the Caribbean, a tropical storm brushing past the East End this week and fears of a monster storm coming next week, Tuesday’s Town Board work session led off with a presentation about climate change and its effects on communities. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect across eastern Long Island as Hurricane Jose continues its slow move north. The effects of the storm are most likely to be felt Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. (more…)
