A healthy — in every way— crowd of all ages participated in a group walk May 25.

On May 25, the Shelter Island School completed its second annual “A Walk Across America” challenge. Students, teachers, parents, grandparents and school board members were welcome to participate in a five-day event to promote fitness and school spirit, walking laps around the school track and combining the miles covered to attain a goal. Three of Shelter Island’s most accomplished student track stars came to Monday night’s Board of Education meeting to thank their coaches, administration and school board members for supporting a program they said has been one of the best experiences of their educational careers. (more…)

If you believe Punxsutawney Phil, there’s six more weeks of winter left. But there’s only a week of winter track left.

The championship season is underway. In order to qualify and compete at the small school championships, an athlete must have run one of the top 24 performances during the season. The best time run by each athlete is referred to as their seed time. (more…)
