Anyone associating themselves with the KKK and Nazism is associating themselves with hatred, bigotry, racism, intolerance and a tremendously inhumane past filled with horrible evil. This is one of the extremes that exist in our society that has a long history of trying to tear us apart. (more…)

The massive amount of mail delivered daily to the U.S. Capitol for representatives and senators had a boost from Shelter Island late last month — 535 letters to be exact. (more…)

Is it impolite to honk at three bicyclists riding slowly abreast in front of my car?
It certainly is, and it violates the spirit of Shelter Island civility, libertarianism and passive-aggression. Honking can only be justified as an alternative to running them over. Codger disapproves of that, in most cases. (more…)

Don’t cut Coast Guard
To the Editor:
For all of us on eastern Long Island who “go down to the sea in ships,” commercial and recreational fishermen, sailors, yachtsmen, family boaters and commercial captains, please be aware that the present administration’s budget calls for a $1 billion cut in the Coast Guard budget for 2018. (more…)
