Spring for Shelter Island means many things but one of the most enduring and inspirational signs of the season is the Shelter Island School play.

This annual community event was once again a smashing success last weekend with the production of “Curtains” playing to full houses  The production  sparked  conversations in offices, shops and at the post offices about the charming, brilliantly produced and acted production. (more…)

Sometimes the fertilizer needed to help a garden grow is green: the color of the money used to purchase seeds, gardening supplies and the educational materials students need to learn what works and what doesn’t.

School districts from Riverhead to Orient and Shelter Island combined forces recently to seek $100,000 in grant money from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm to School program to enhance their educational garden programs.  (more…)

With just released scores from New York State tests for grades three through eight, a initial glance would conclude that too many district students are failing to meet proficiency levels demanded by the newly implemented Common Core standards. (more…)
