What a midterm election — in Suffolk County and the nation!

When I entered my polling place, a poll-watcher commented about how it had been an extremely busy day. That was true of voting across the nation. For years, voter apathy has been bemoaned. Perhaps the 2018 midterms will mark a change. (more…)

On election night 2016, Republican Suffolk County Chairman John Jay LaValle praised Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) by saying he had gone to Washington, D.C., and become “a national TV star.”

It was fitting praise, considering the direction politics has taken under President Trump. It’s all about ratings. (more…)

Shelter Island voters will have only two local candidates on next Tuesday’s ballot and both are running unopposed. Mary-Faith Westervelt is seeking another term on the bench at Shelter Island Justice Court to which she was first elected in 2011.
