“Threats.” “Collusion.” “Hate speech.”

This is some of the language being used as the Town Board prepares to draft and vote on legislation to regualte homeowners who rent their properties for short-term stays.

It gets worse, with particularly vile, unsubstantiated accusations being aired, but won’t be repeated here because there’s no profit in throwing gasoline on a dumpster fire. (more…)

Loren Reich was a well-paid, internationally-traveling executive based in Manhattan, when she decided she was ready to move to the Island full-time in 2005, after years of coming out weekends. She saw an ad for an executive assistant position and when she got a call from the man doing the screening he had a warning. The position involved working at a laboratory run by U.S. Department of Homeland Security for the study of animal diseases. (more…)

While Shelter Islanders were preparing for the big day or on the way to family celebrations, the Reporter asked a few of them what foods they were looking forward to, thinking we’d discover some new twists on classic recipes, but for these Islanders, it’s not about the recipe. The dishes they put on the table tomorrow will preserve and adapt traditions, honor previous generations and say, “I love you.” (more…)
