And so, my fellow gardeners, the season comes to a close after all that dreadful heat and humidity. At least we have cooler temperatures to sustain ourselves as we do the last chores of the season. And let’s talk about them now.

Sweet corn is here, and you know what to do.

The best sweet corn of the season is coming in now.  This is stuff you can eat raw, a practice I observed at Sep’s farm stand when one employee was so overcome by the creamy beauty of the ears she was selling, that she shucked an ear and ate it one-handed, while making change with the other hand.

Isola’s Heights location has begun to feel like home. July 2 marked one year for the Italian eatery.

The Island’s fledgling Italian eatery, Isola, celebrated its one-year anniversary in early July after a long winter where owner Brad Kitkowski and Chef Seth Nathan bravely decided to keep the doors open full-time. (more…)
