When school guidance counselor Martha Tuthill arrived on Shelter Island from the Greenport School District, she brought with her some ideas that had not yet taken root here. Among them was involving Island students in the annual DECA contest — previously known as Distributive Education. (more…)

At the Town Board’s Tuesday work session, an examination of a homeowner’s request to relocate a well onto a town-owned right of way turned into a broader discussion of what’s been termed, by Supervisor Jim Dougherty and others, as the water “crisis” on the Island. (more…)

On Saturday January 30, the Shelter Island boys varsity basketball team had their home gym rocking before, during and after a 54-53 barn-burner win over the previously undefeated Stony Brook Bears.

This was the second home game in a row the varsity boys came away with a thrilling, 1- point victory. The win clinched a playoff berth for the Islanders. (more…)
