Nearing the halfway point of their 41 game regular season schedule, the Shelter Island Bucks of the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League (HCBL) stand in third place with a record of 10-8-1. They are 6-4 over their last ten games. (more…)

Through the years, Shelter Island has been proud of its golfers. The way this year is panning out, that’s not going to change. Golfers continue to show we can play darn good golf right here on this little island.

Through the years we’ve enjoyed accomplishment after accomplishment and not just on our Island, but throughout the state and country. Just last week 61 year-old Jay Sessa was playing in a national event as the oldest player in the field. The week before that and the week after, Jay “Jake” Card III finished second in two major tournaments. (more…)

BEVERLEA WALZ PHOTO Returning to action for the Bucks Opening Day June was team mascot Billy Buck with veteran batboy Tate Ford.

Shelter Island Bucks General Manager Frank Emmett and Assistant GM Dave Gurney were in high spirits before the team’s opener at Fiske Field last Friday afternoon even though the day had delivered just enough precipitation to keep the crowds at bay.

But soon the evening turned warm and clear, getting better with every run the Bucks racked up to beat the Sag Harbor Whalers, 12-2. (more…)

Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League (HCBL) play opens next month with seven brand new rosters competing over a 42 game regular season followed by playoffs in late July.
Every season in the HCBL means a fresh start. (more…)

I am one of the 15 homes — and Legion Hall — directly abutting Fiske Field. In this regard, I am highly concerned by the potential well contamination that would result from spraying such a large area with tickicide. (more…)
