A speedy recovery
To the Editor:
Robbie Gorcoff was at work last Wednesday. Nothing unusual. He’s worked for the Shelter Island Highway Department for a long time. You’d recognize his face, if not his name. He’s done the cleaning, paving, plowing, fixing and whatever else our roads require. Roads, by the way, that are spectacular compared to the metropolis up Island — Manhattan. (more…)
COURTESY SHELTER ISLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT The scene on South Ferry Road this morning in the aftermath of an accident that sent two people to the hospital.
UPDATE: Rob Gorcoff, the Highway Department worker injured in an accident on Wednesday, is out of the intensive care unit at Stony Brook University Hospital and continuing to recover from his injuries, according to Highway Superintendent Jay Card Jr.
Mr. Card said he is hoping to get a chance to visit with Mr. Gorcoff this weekend.
Two people were injured around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when an SUV struck a Highway Department employee filling potholes on South Ferry Road about a mile from the ferry, Police Chief James Read said. (more…)
