The Joseph J. Theinert Memorial Fund Annual Benefit raised over $14,000 on Thursday, July 19 at the South Ferry East Landing. Over 200 people attended the lawn party and southern boil, while more than 100 stayed for the ferry cruise.

A Shelter Island couple has raised $20,000 for construction of a bunkhouse that will expand the capacity of the ranch to offer restorative retreats, free of charge, to active and veteran soldiers and Gold Star families. The charity was created in honor of Mr. Theinert’s brother, Lt. Joseph L. Theinert of Shetler Island, killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010.

A girl who died of leukemia at age 4 nearly 40 years ago is being remembered by her family in a gift to the Lt. Joseph J. Theinert Memorial Fund that her mother said helps fulfill a promise she made to “live in happiness for her.” (more…)

Once again, this year’s “3 on 3” basketball tournament was a huge success, helping support the nonprofit Joseph J. Theinert Memorial Fund.

This event is just one of several that are hosted throughout the year to fund the Strongpoint Theinert Ranch, which helps veterans and Gold Star families. (more…)

IT’S SUMMER — LET’S GO BAREFOOT! 

Sylvester Manor Educational Farm continues its summer concert series with The Barefoot Movement on Sunday, August 13 at 6 p.m. The group first appeared at Sylvester Manor two years ago at a sold-out house concert, and returning to the summer Creekside stage will be fiddler Noah Wall, mandolinist Tommy Norris, guitarist Alex Conerly and upright bassist Katie Blomarz.

Sample provided food and beverages or bring a picnic and enjoy the wonder and serenity of a Creekside Concert at Sylvester Manor.
