A plunge into the frigid waters of the bay in support of the public library has become a Thanksgiving weekend tradition here. The 8th annual Turkey Plunge is Saturday, November 25 at 11 a.m. sharp at Crescent Beach and costumes are highly encouraged.

SIEF GRANTS CELEBRATION
All Islanders are welcome to join board members of the Shelter Island Educational Foundation (SIEF) and grant recipients at the Grants Celebration on Sunday, November 19 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Shelter Island Library. The event is a chance for students and teachers to talk about opportunities they’ve had in the past to learn outside the classroom through the SIEF grant program. (more…)

MYSTERIES AT THE MANOR
On Saturday, October 28 from noon to 3 p.m., Sylvester Manor Educational Farm hosts “Mysteries of the Manor,” an afternoon of frightful family fun with ghoulish games, creepy crafts, a freaky photobooth, face painting and farm animals. Bennett Konesni, cofounder of Sylvester Manor Educational Farm, will share some of the traditional paper cutting techniques his ancestors used to create timeless images of everyday moments at a “Zenday Workshop” decorative paper cutting class. The workshop will be held in the Manor dining room on Saturday, October 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and everyone will take home art pieces they create. (more…)
