He was the man I never knew, the man who gave me my name.

He was brought closer to me through a phone call I got one afternoon. An editor at the Washington Post, where I freelance occasionally, phoned to say a man who lived in the D.C. area had called and wanted to know if I would contact him. International economist, author and public policy specialist Sylvia Ann Hewlett will be the featured speaker at the July 25 Friday Night Dialogues at the Library starting at 7 p.m.

Long before Sheryl Sandberg was telling women to “lean in,” Ms. Hewlett, an economist with 20 years of experience in global talent management, was focusing on the challenges and opportunities faced by women, minorities and other previously excluded groups. (more…)
