LIPA refunds on the way

The Long Island Power Authority announced this week that it plans to refund $144 million to its customers due to lower than expected natural gas prices.

The refund will reach customers as credits on their October and November gas bills. The amount credited will be based on consumer usage during the first eight months of the year.

“This is good news for Long Islanders who have faced increasing rates and surcharges over the last two years,” Assemblyman Fred Thiele stated in a press release Monday. “I hope LIPA will continue this approach and return its savings to the ratepayers.”
