5K makes a difference

To the Editor:

As a volunteer on the Shelter Island 5K Committee, I recently received this thank you note from Stacy Quarty, president of Lucia’s Angels, which received 100 percent of the raffle proceeds from the 5K Run/Walk held on October 17th. Lucia’s Angels supports local women and families with late-stage women’s cancers including breast, ovarian, cervical, uterine cancers, lung, etc. At this time of year when we give thanks, I thought it beneficial to share it with this wonderful community.

“Thank you so much for your continued support of Lucia’s Angels! I look forward to your race every year, knowing I’ll have a great time being surrounded by such friendly and enthusiastic people.

“With your help, we’re able to pay for an outstanding dental bill for a woman in Amagansett, a mortgage payment in Bridgehampton, rent for another woman in Southampton, groceries and gas money in East Hampton, an insurance premium in Southampton and funeral expenses for a woman in East Hampton

“You’ve made a difference in these people’s lives. Thanks so much for helping us help others. You are all truly angels!”
