On honoring vets


To the Editor:


There was a wonderful ceremony this Veterans Day at the American Legion Post on Shelter Island. The legion and auxiliary members and local scout troops did a great job. Many community members were on hand to honor and show their appreciation to our veterans and their support for those on active duty.


Our military men and women risk their lives daily for little pay to keep this country safe. Noticeably absent from the crowd were the staff and students from our school. Isn’t it ironic they get the day off to honor veterans, but couldn’t spare less than an hour to show their appreciation.


Thank you veterans and all enlisted men and women for your dedication, sacrifice and service.
