The Shelter Island Fire Department responded to a mid-morning dispatch on November 24, reporting a fire in Silver Beach. They found an open burning, which was in violation of the state Department of Environmental Conservation regulations that went into effect in October and prohibits burning leaves as well as household paper and trash in burn barrels or in piles.
