More vaccine
 for H1N1 virus available here

The H1N1 (also known as “swine flu”) influenza vaccine is now available at Drs. Christopher and Kathleen Marshall’s office. The vaccine will cost patients a $30 administrative fee, which is covered by insurance. Call to make an appointment at 749-2232. Only a small number of doses is available.

The Suffolk County Health Department urges all high-risk groups to get vaccinated. That includes anyone from 6 months to 24 years of age, caregivers of children younger than six months old, pregnant women, health care and emergency personnel, and people aged 25 to 64 who have health conditions, like lung disease, that are associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza.

Those in high-risk groups who are unable to get the H1N1 vaccine locally are advised to call the Suffolk County flu hotline (787-2200) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to be put on the contact list at one of the Department’s distribution clinics (the closest one is in Riverhead).

For more information about the H1N1 vaccine, call New York State’s 24-hour H1N1 hotline (1-800-808-1987) or visit cdc.gov/h1n1flu.
