In God We Trust?

To the Editor:

There are some Americans in this country of ours who would like to do away with all religious holidays, take “In God We Trust” off all our paper money and coinage and remove it from all government buildings. The separation of church and state means that the government of this country can not force one type of religion on its citizens. God is not a religion! Are those same Americans going to give away all the money they have with “In God We Trust” on it?

When George Washington took the oath of office on April 29th, 1789 he added at the end “so help me God.” President Obama took the oath with his hand on president Lincoln’s bible and said “so help me God” as did many of our past presidents.

Our founding fathers believed in God and so do the majority of Americans believe in some higher power than themselves.
