Paul A. D’Auria II

Paul Adam D’Auria was born December 24, 1925 and passed away December 25, 2009. 

He was born in East New York, one of nine children. His education was interrupted when he was called to military service in WW II. In 1950 he married Gloria Sabatino, his wife for 48 years until her death in 1997. They resided in Flushing.

Paul was a diamond merchant on 47th Street in the city for 50 years. He was a member of the Gemological Institute. He was an avid figure ice skater and a member of the Metropolitan Figure Skating Club.

He became a part-time Shelter Island resident in 1984 after building a house in Hay Beach. He was a member of the Hay Beach Association. He retired to Shelter Island in 2005, and in his later years could be seen walking daily in Hay Beach.

Paul is survived by his three children: Paul III, Charles (Karen), Cynthia (Peter Sessa), and seven grandchildren. He has one great-grandchild, who is his namesake, Paul Adam D’Auria V.

Visitation was held at the Shelter Island Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was then held at Our Lady of the Isle Church. The interment was at Our Lady of the Isle Cemetery.
