‘Sniper’ Sue Warner takes home the gold Team Won Lost
Taking aim and taking down her target is easy for Sue the Sniper Warner. The first game was target practice for Sue. She went Dutch and had three open frames for a 161. With a turkey to start, our Bowler of the Week had one open frame in the second game for a 195. In the third game, Sue bagged another turkey as well as 4 spares in a row for another high score — 189.
The Rockettes found their rhythm against the Odd Balls. Sashaying Sherri Surozenski had three open frames for a 152 while Nichole Twinkle Toes Thomas matched marks for a 158. Odd Ball Bev Pelletier picked up some marks for a 116 in the first game but her team left her standing alone. Fay Rodriguez-Walker was the only lady to reach her average in the second game. Her 123 took the win for the Rockettes, but only by one pin. Sherri sat back for the last game. Captain Lynn Kay Waltzing Winters led her team with a good foundation and a smattering of spares for a 113. Fay flitted in a few marks for a 121 as Nichole wrapped up the encore with double strikes for a 149 and a Rockette win.
The Guttersnipes had the Brick-Laying Babes in their crosshairs. Babe Captain Laura Marcello had a pair of spares while Tracy Gibbs went Dutch in the middle of her set. Snipe Cathy Driscoll pulled a poult for a 120 and Mary Ellen Gran hit her marks for a 126. BLB Dara Clark started Dutch in the second game for a fine 109. Tracy and Traci Kannwischer both improved on their scores with a 154 and a 124 respectively. Cathy blew us away with 4 spares in the first four frames for a 150 and another Snipe win. Snipe Archer Brown made a second 101 in the third game. Laura laid down 4 spares for a 141. Traci and Tracy continued to build with 138 and 170 respectively and a final Babe win.
The Fabulous Five kept Paint by Numbers in the red. Ginny Gibbs gingerly sent her ball down the alley for a 128. Mary Kanarvogel went a pin higher than her average for an 89. The Five were Fabulous with all four bowlers rolling over their averages and taking the first game. The second game looked like it was going to the Paints. They had a 6-mark lead for the first half. Jackie Brewer bagged a turkey by the fifth frame and followed with a poult to even things up in the eighth frame. Essie Simovich had a poult to close out the game for a 20-pin win. Jackie had a little energy left in the third, unlike her teammates. Jackie’s poult and double strikes earned her a 161, but Paint by Numbers were vibrant. All four Paints were well over average, with Donna Clark hitting 4 spares in a row. She had the high for her team with a 147.
The Lucky Strikes were not spared by Spare Us. Lucky Julie Fanelli had 4 spares in the first four frames for a 119. Spare Sue Klenawicus went Dutch with three open for a 145, while Ellie Labrozzi bagged a poult and one open for a 188 and the Spare win. Melina Wein tempted fate and added 17 pins to her game for a 116. Ellie was up in the 150s again in the second game, but Sue’s two poults helped her one open game reach 168.
In the last game Julie missed a turkey by 1 pin but still got a 151 and the high handicap game of the week. Momma P. joined Ellie and Sue by besting her average in the last game as well. Momma P. was 14 over, while Sue was 10. Ellie had the second highest score of the week with her 189 and one open frame. Spare Us showed no mercy and took all 11.
Eight weeks left and the Guttersnipes are still holding onto first with the Rockettes closing the gap. The Lucky Strikes are perilously close to the bottom while the Odd Balls seem doomed once again. The remaining teams are jumping around trying to climb their way up the ladder. Good luck, Ladies.
