Future transit needs


To the Editor:


Not long ago, gasoline was over $4 per gallon. Will those prices return? The growing energy demands of China and India will certainly drive future energy prices higher.


Today’s affordable auto trips might be difficult at higher fuel prices. Some might defer an off-Island medical trip. Seniors who now ask a neighbor’s assistance might be reluctant because of gas costs. A responsive RTA could accommodate these trips as well as commuter and other travel.


Today, the RTA might not be wanted by some. Tomorrow, the RTA might be needed by many. The non-binding RTA resolution should be supported by our town leaders.
