JUNIATA CONCERT CHOIR
The Juniata College Choir will be back by popular demand to perform on Sunday, March 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church. The concert will feature a cappella music from several cultures and traditions, under the direction of Dr. Russ Shelley. There is no charge for admission but there will be a free-will offering.
3 E’s ‘CRASH COURSE’
The “Crash Course” video seminar on the economy, energy and the environment, a three-part series, will be held at the Shelter Island Public Library at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 19 and 26 and April 2. The program offers insights that will help individuals make decisions during the current financial crisis.
ST. PATRICK’S DAY DINNER
Our Lady of the Isle will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a corned beef and cabbage dinner and a 50/50 raffle at Two Ed’s Restaurant on Wednesday, March 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. A donation of $20 for adults and $9.95 for children will benefit the church’s outreach program as well as the Shelter Island Food Pantry — and the donation of an item or two for the pantry will also be appreciated. TAYLOR’S ISLAND EXHIBIT
The Taylor’s Island Preservation and Management Committee and the Taylor’s Island Foundation are sponsoring an exhibit in Town Hall. The exhibit will open on Friday, March 12; refreshments will be served between 2 and 3:30 p.m. Visitors will be able to see photographs, art work, a handmade quilt, and archival materials — all related to the island’s past and present. The exhibit will hang through the month of May.
SELLING ‘C’s
The Spanish Club at the Shelter Island School is running a fundraiser for the victims of the earthquake that shook Chile last week. Members will be selling “C’s” (for Chile, caring, etc.) for a dollar or more. The club will donate the proceeds to the American Red Cross for distribution. ‘PLACE AND POSSIBILITY’
“Place and Possibility” returns to Sylvester Manor on Sunday, March 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. The theme for March is Land & Spirit; participants are encouraged to bring a journal, camera or whatever implement of creativity will help them to explore the possibilities. ‘HEALING AND HOPE’
A special “Lenten Service of Healing and Hope” will be held at the Shelter Island Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 19 at 7 p.m. The service will include sacred readings, psalms and prayers, songs and silence and a healing ceremony.
CORNED BEEF & CABBAGE
The American Legion will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Wednesday, March 17 at 6:30 p.m. with Fred Ogar’s corned beef and cabbage dinner at Legion Hall. The cost is $15 per person. Call 749-1180 for more information or a reservation.

Peconic Land Trust will offer its Volunteer Orientation and Information Program on the North Fork on Saturday, March 13 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Winds Way Farm in Jamesport. The South Fork program will take place on Sunday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Bridge Gardens on Mitchell Lane in Bridgehampton. Join Mashomack Preserve’s Tom Damiani on a visit to the Arshamomaque Preserve on Tuesday, March 16 at 8 a.m. Participants will meet at the Red House Nature Center in Greenport and will hopefully see the season’s first ospreys, late winter ducks, among other seasonal preserve inhabitants.

‘WINTER MADNESS SALE’
The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons has announced that all clothing at the ARF Thrift & Treasure Shop on Montauk Highway in Sagaponack will be marked down to $5 or less during the month of March. Prices on furniture, glassware and other items have also been drastically reduced. The net proceeds from the shop help pay for food, shelter and veterinary care for the homeless cats and dogs at the ARF adoption center.
‘BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH’
Shakespeare lovers are invited to a reading of “Julius Caesar” on Monday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Church hall on Main Street in Greenport. Everyone is welcome — to read or just to listen. The play has been selected as the Northeast Stage’s Shakespeare-in-the-Park production this summer in Greenport.
