1990 Celebrating conservation 


It took Linda Holmes no time at all to get in touch about last week’s photo, taken on the occasion of the county’s agreeing to preserve Section 9 — 70 acres of shoreline between Hay Beach and Ram Island. From the left, she said, were Fred Thiele, then presiding officer of the Suffolk County Legislature; Kevin McDonald, president of the Group for the South Fork; Sara Davison, president of the South Fork/Shelter Island Chapter of the Nature Conservancy; Linda, who was a trustee of the Hay Beach Property Owners Association; and Al Kilb, town councilman. Standing behind Linda is Dr. John F. Kelly, president of the Hay Beach Association.


Linda said, “The Hay Beach Association put up $2,000 towards the purchase, and I personally worked for 24 years to preserve Section 9!”
