Church move is voted
The Island’s oldest church, the First Presbyterian Church of Shelter Island, will be moved next year to a 17-acre site on West Neck Road. The decision was the result of a corporate meeting held last Friday evening. A secret ballot on the proposition tallied 49 in favor, 43 opposed. • MARCH 19, 1960

Pumped up gas prices fuel concern
“It’s the highest we’ve ever seen,” said Angelo Piccozzi of J. W. Piccozzi, Inc., after he posted $1.699, $1.749, and $1.849 on his pumps over the weekend for regular, special and super gasoline. Not since the 1980s have the per gallon costs come even close, hitting a high of $1.699 for super during the last energy crisis.• MARCH 16, 2000
