Letters: Wrecker response

To the Editor:

In response to your article entitled “Wrecker by request?” it would appear that the article leads the reader to believe that something inappropriate was done by Rapid Recovery. This letter is a factual clarification of the tow in question. The Shelter Island Police towing rates are set by the town.

The tow bill in question breaks down as follows. Night response is $175, 28 miles back to the impound yard in Hampton Bays is $119. South Ferry $37. For a total of $331. All of which was paid for by the insurance company. Total out of pocket expense to the customer was zero. If the Shelter Island Reporter is going to write articles questioning a company’s integrity, they should get their facts straight.

ERIC S. LANG

RAPID RECOVERY TOWING

The total bill paid to Rapid Recovery before the car was released was $531, which included impound storage for four days, an administration fee and a yard fee, Mr. Lang has confirmed.
