Sparks fly on a wet, gray day

Shelter Island Firefighters Monday morning responded to a call about a sparking transformer on Brander Parkway, arriving in time to determine that given the rainy weather, the flame that sparked from moment to moment wouldn’t cause any immediate problem and could be left to Long Island Power Authority workers to repair.

A LIPA crew arrived on the site about an hour after the original call to fix the problem.
