Bitter cold and blustery winds, with temperatures at about 5 degrees and wind chill values as low as -15 greeted Shelter Islanders for President’s Day morning.

The temperature, according to the National Weather Service, is not expected to break 20 degrees today.

A stiff  northwest wind ranging between 15 to 20 mph will continue to make it the coldest February in 20 years.

The Island roads are slippery and dangerous, with blowing snow in the thoroughfares on top of ice.
