Our friend Don Bindler took the remarkable photo above late last week on a mid-Island pond.

Don wrote: “As we approach the first days of autumn, wood ducks have returned to Island ponds.

“These beautiful ducks gather in flocks to feast on acorns and algae. They’ll stay until the food supply becomes scarce and then continue to journey southward. “
