The Shelter Island Bucks scored 231 times in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League regular season this summer, more than 44 runs above the league average.
They blew out the Montauk Mustangs on two occasions to advance past the semifinal round of the HCBL playoffs. And on Friday evening at Fiske Field, they hung 10 runs on the visiting Westhampton Aviators in just five innings en route to a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three championship series. (more…)

For the second consecutive year, the Shelter Island Bucks will play for the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League Championship.
After splitting a pair of games with the Montauk Mustangs on Monday and Tuesday, the Bucks cruised past their southern rivals in the decisive third game, scoring 8 runs early and staving off a late Montauk comeback attempt to win 10-3. (more…)

A night after their best defensive performance of the season, the Shelter Island Bucks came out flat on the road against the Montauk Mustangs, losing 9-4.

Montauk centerfielder JJ Shimko stood hunched over, his hands tightly clutching his gray uniform pants.
The Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League All-Star from the University of South Carolina Upstate had just watched a line drive off the bat of Shelter Island Bucks’ Ben Prada fly inches above his glove and ricochet off the outfield wall Monday evening at Fiske Field.
Shimko’s posture indicated what everyone was thinking during the opening game of the HCBL playoffs — it wasn’t Montauk’s night. (more…)
