On April 3, members of the Shelter Island Women’s Community Club were treated to a Power Point presentation by Joy Bausman, honorary regent of the Shelter Island Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and Karen Kiaer, chapter historian, offering a historical overview of some of the patriots and founders buried in the Shelter Island Presbyterian Church colonial cemeteries. The event was held in fellowship hall at the church. This is the first of several activities planned to celebrate the 275th Anniversary of the Presbyterian Church. (more…)

Ron Adler remembers getting up early on cold, rainy mornings to milk the goats, and being grateful for their warmth. Featured speaker at the November Women’s Club November 14 luncheon meeting, Ron shared his experiences growing up on a kibbutz in Israel, and talked about his participation in last summer’s Maccabiah Games. He supplied the food — in the form of Romanian eggplant, tahini, pita, and baklava — and props: photos of the kibbutz and the games, along with the medals he won. (more…)

How many Shelter Islanders know they have a vested interest in a little island within Shelter Island?
For those of us who didn’t, P.A.T. Hunt, President of the Taylor’s Island Foundation and Co-Chair of the Taylor’s Island Preservation and Management Committee took the ladies and guests of the Shelter Island Women’s Club on an historical journey to this special place called Taylor’s Island.
It sits within Coecles Harbor and is really a tombolo, an island only at high tide. (more…)

At the Shelter Island Woman’s Community Club meeting held on Tuesday, February 7, Laurie Fanelli, R.N., M.A., psychiatric nurse practitioner and director of our Senior Center, told the ladies of the club, “you’re ready for your second adulthood.” (more…)
