David Berson, captain of the Greenport-based electric launch the Glory, has written “Celestial Navigation: A Practical Guide to Knowing Where You Are.”
On May 17, at 7 p.m., Mr. Berson will discuss this centuries-old technique of celestial navigation — the art of using the sextant — at the Shelter Island Public Library. (more…)

National EMS week is soon and Shelter Island Town is hosting an EMS open house on May 18. Pictured, early this year Supervisor Gary Gerth accepted a $60,000 check to be deposited into the EMS capital reserve fund to assure money will be on hand when a new ambulance is next needed.
