Frank Milano will speak about his time in Zaire as a teacher in the Peace Corps.
“It was the most rewarding time of my life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” says Frank Milano about his 1984-1986 Peace Corps experience in Zaire, a time when the country was host to between 65 to 70 Peace Corps volunteers. Zaire is now the Democratic Republic of Congo.

On Wednesday, July 25, the Shelter Island Yacht Club (SIYC) will host a race and dinner for participants of the “Rocking the Boat” program, a non-profit youth empowerment initiative that offers boat building, environmental science education, and youth sailing and rowing to at-risk high school students in the South Bronx — the nation’s poorest congressional district.
Their slogan? “Kids don’t just build boats, boats build kids.”
