It was all about fishing fun in the sun during the Shelter Island Lions Club annual kids’ Snapper Derby on Saturday, Aug. 31. Kid contestants up to 14 years old were geared up with fishing rods and snapper rigs all over Island beaches, bridges and boats.

The Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce presents its annual duck race on Aug. 18 at 2:30 p.m. at Volunteer Park Bridge Street.
The Shelter Island Library tennis tournament fundraiser returns on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 8 a.m. at the Shelter Island School Courts. The annual Taylor’s Island Kettle Clambake took place on Saturday, Aug. 10 on Taylor’s Island. Shuttle boats gathered guests at Congdon’s Dock while others arrived by kayak. The feast featured lobster, clams, chicken, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, watermelon and fresh homemade lemonade. Only 100 tickets were available.

The Shelter Island Educational Foundation hosted its annual porch party on July 6 at the home of Karen Brush overlooking her English garden and West Neck Bay.
