Back in the 1950s, I saw very few women playing sports and growing up I never thought much about it. I assumed everyone was happy with it.
There were many other things that are different today that I never thought about growing up. I saw few African-American men playing baseball and none playing golf. I played golf for years before I realized there was a Caucasian-only clause on the PGA tour, which wasn’t eliminated until 1961. Just a few years later, Lee Elder was the first black man to play in the revered Masters Tournament. (more…)
