BEVERLEA WALZ PHOTOS The official opening of the Christmas season happened yesterday with the annual tree lighting in front of Police headquarters in the Center.

Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, cookies and cider were contributed by Islanders for all who attended the great winter event. The school’s band was on hand for seasonal songs and carols, and the chorus kept the spirit alive. (more…)

This spring the New York State Public High School Athletic Association announced that Shelter Island had won its fourth consecutive School of Distinction award. (more…)

Over the next several days, leading to the New Year, the Reporter will be posting our annual Year In Review series of important stories from 2018.

The glitz and glamour of the Roaring Twenties may be long gone, but prohibition-era bootleggers, Gold Coast mansions and rich bad boys with no visible means of support were all alive and well on the stage of the Shelter Island School auditorium this March in “Nice Work if You Can Get It,” the Shelter Island Drama Club’s spring musical.
