Union Chapel in the Grove welcomes David Lichtenstein, Ph.D., and members of the Shelter Island Historical Society on Sunday, July 7 at 10:30 am. Dr. Lichtenstein will speak about “A Treasure Hidden in Plain Sight,” the history of the Japanese-style bridge in South Ferry Hills. Members of the Historical Society will participate in the service as readers and ushers.

“A Taste of the Island,” the Perlman Music Program’s (PMP) annual summer benefit, took place at the waterfront campus on Friday, July 27.

If it’s summer (or close to it) it must be time for the return of the Perlman Music Program’s (PMP) young musicians to Shelter Island. The PMP season begins Friday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. when the Chamber Music Workshop kicks off its 15th year with a “Musical Soiree from the Age of Enlightenment,” featuring 46 young participants ages 18 to 30 performing chamber music for strings and piano by Haydn and Mozart. BEVERLEA WALZ PHOTO | SIFM kicked off its new concert season with violinist Sean Lee and accompanist Peter Dugan in concert at the Presbyterian Church on February 18.
Sean Lee is an astonishing young violinist. Peter Dugan is an astounding young pianist.
Together, they opened the 41st season of the Shelter Island Friends of Music with an indelible performance that took the chill right out of a winter afternoon. A packed house cheered both the musical selections and the playing of these distinguished artists, both of whom are alums of the Perlman Music Program and are members of the faculty at Juilliard. Perlman Music Program held its first-ever Alumni Chamber Music Retreat from September 30 to October 5. At the culmination of the retreat, the musicians presented a series of concerts in the community. (more…)
