AMBROSE CLANCY PHOTO | At the Town Board work session Tuesday, Tim Purtell, chairman of the Green Options Advisory Committee, proposed an informational campaign along with either selling or giving away reusable bags to reduce the use of plastic bags on the Island.
On April 22, Earth Day, plastic grocery bags will be banned on the South Fork, with both East Hampton and Southampton towns prohibiting them by law.
There is no movement here to get rid of plastic bags, which research has shown are ecologically hazardous, especially to coastal communities when the bags drift into waterways. (more…)

In a wide ranging discussion at Tuesday’s Town Board work session, topics as varied as ZBA ordered setbacks and World Falun Dafa Day were aired.
But two items brought up by Supervisor Jim Dougherty, touched on briefly but with a promise for more depth later, could be two building blocks to ensure the Island is a green and safe fortress for future generations. (more…)
