Correction: In last week’s column the Reporter stated that Ms. Popsil’s first name is Pamela. Her first name is actually Elizabeth.

My mentor at this newspaper back in 1980 was editor and publisher Bob Dunne. I can still hear his voice when I made my first mistake in a story. I felt terrible. His response was, “You have to remember that this is a very inexact science.”

RICHARD LOMUSCIO PHOTO Guests at the Senior Center got crafty during a silk scarf making workshop.

silk scarf workshop was held at the Senior Activity Center recently. Some 15 seniors participated. The workshop guided seniors through the process of creating their own scarves. Some now have their own hand-painted articles of clothing. A variety of different techniques with examples was provided by the instructor, Lorraine Pepper.

The Shelter Island Senior Center now has a karaoke machine.

It sounded like some back road honkytonk on a Saturday night. But it was not. The karaoke music was coming from the Shelter Island Senior Activity Center.
