The Shelter Island High School prom took place at The Ram’s Head Inn on Friday, May 17. The students danced the night away while celebrating the end of the school year and the new adventures and experiences that are on the horizon.

The onset is very gradual with a great deal of denial along the way. I remember receiving AARP information when I turned 55 and asking my parents who had just become octogenarians why they were not members. My mother’s reply was, “That’s just for old people.”

I have discovered that when embarking on a problem-solving situation, it’s always best to rule out the most obvious. If the car won’t start, first make sure that it has gas. If the baby’s crying, first determine whether she’s hungry. If no water is coming out of the faucet, ascertain that the pump is working before drilling a new well.
