BEVERLEA WALZ PHOTO Steppin’ lively as the annual Shelter Island Halloween Parade kicks off Monday afternoon in the Center.

A perfect autumn afternoon was the special setting for the annual Shelter Island Halloween Parade in the Center Monday. Many veterans of the parade said it was the best attended in years.

Revelers of all ages strutted their stuff and then headed into the firehouse for hotdogs and other treats. Soon it was off to Smith Street and environs for trick or treating and more fun.

“More candy,” a little boy yelled as he raced across Smith Street to the next house. There was more than enough candy to go around.

Here are some scenes from an Island Halloween that began at the Center Firehouse, made stops at the Shelter Island Library, Schmidt’s and Dandy Liquors and ended at Chrissy Gross’s house at the end of Smith Street. (more…)

BEVERLEA WALZ PHOTOS | The start of the parade Friday afternoon.

Postponed from Wednesday because of widespread power outages following Superstorm Sandy, the annual Shelter Island Halloween Parade happened Friday afternoon starting at 4 p.m. in the Center, followed by good eats at the fire house and trick-or-treating at all the usual hot spots.
